The only bad part of this system is the fact that some heroes seem to have a very, very low chance of appearing. After running a few dungeons, you unlock the ability to spend your gold on buying the remaining skills, camping abilities, and even remove negative quirks. This plays into the roguelike aspect of the game, and honestly is fine. Thankfully you can remove the horrible quirks at the Sanitarium.Īs for gameplay, as I said before, the heroes who come to your small town are randomly generated, so their starting skills, camping skills, and quirks are all chosen at random. Your character’s quirks will make or break them. You form your team based around the heroes who show up randomly, and then send them into the dungeons to complete missions. You explore via a party of 4 characters, all of which are randomly generated heroes who have also answered the call to get rich or famous the same way. Your goal is to explore the unsettling areas around what seems to be a cursed mansion, for both riches and to kill off the monsters that have suddenly appeared in the surrounding areas. Darkest Dungeon has just recently come to Steam Early Access, so naturally the game is quite unfinished, however, the game it’s quite fun from what I’ve played so far, so rather than review an unfinished game in full as if it were the end here’s my thoughts on this early-access effort so far…ĭarkest Dungeon is a gothic-style roguelike, that plays out like a turn-based RPG for combat.
